Barbara Katharina Shuster Fälchle (1775-1841)
180 years ago today, Barbara Katharina Schuster died. Barbara married Johann Georg Fälchle and became the mother of the Fälchle / Felchle / Falchle / Filchel / Фельхле clan from Teplitz, Bessarabia. A single-spaced list of her and her descendants (without spouses) fills 38 pages and has over 1800 individuals in 9 generations; I am in the sixth generation down.
She was born on 21 May 1775 in Neckartailfingen, Germany. I also have a birth record from Hassenthal. In 1800 in Germany, she married Johann Georg Fälchle. She died on 22 November 1841 at the age of 66. She was buried three days later in Teplitz.
I have records of four children:
- Christina Fälchle, born 1804, Nuertingen, Germany and died in 1823 in Teplitz.
- Georg Friedrich Fälchle, born 1806, Obergroeningen, Germany; died 1856 in Teplitz.
- Katharina Fälchle born in 1807 in Nuertingen, Germany. She died in 1823 at the age of 15 in Teplitz
- Johanna Friedericke Fälchle was born in 1813 in Nuertingen, Germany. She died 1855 at the age of 41 in Teplitz.
The couple moved to Teplitz in 1817 and were part of the founding of the colony. No other Felchle moved to Teplitz, but I haven’t investigated if any other Schuster family did.
My records show twelve grandchildren and nine of these have families in my records. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren spread this branch of the family to:
- Argentina
- Germany
- Kazakhstan
- Russia – Crimea, Siberia, Ukraine
- United States
I will use the most common North American spelling of Felchle from now on, but several variations exist. Almost all Felchle in the world today that I’ve contacted came from this family. I’ve contacted one person whose family never left Germany and I’ve seen two families that came to the US from Germany that use the surname Faelchle.
